Doctor Who Season 10 Latest News

Television shows often reuse the same locations and sets all of the time for different purposes, so news that Doctor Who season 10 is back at one of the main filming locations for fan favorite Doctor-lite episode "Blink" could mean nothing... Or it could mean a possible return to the early Steven Moffat story that is considered one of the best episode of NuWho so far...

As CultBox reports, Peter Capaldi and new companion Pearl Mackie were spotted filming outside of Fields House in Newport, UK — aka the location for the Weeping Angel-infested house in season 3's "Blink." Could this spell a semi-sequel to the Moffat-penned episode?

On the one hand, this NuWho episode is very much of a different era — two doctors ago in season 3. On the other hand, the fact that it is a Doctor-lite episode that barely has David Tennant's Doctor and then-companion Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman) in the main action means that there is some wiggle room here.

However, on the other other hand, the fact that the central protagonist in the episode is played by Carey Mulligan — who is now Oscar-nominated and generally keeps to films, rather than TV — doesn't bode well for a proper sequel, does it?

It's hard to imagine that Doctor Who would do a proper sequel of "Blink," complete with Sally Sparrow and Larry Nightengale, but that doesn't mean there couldn't be a callback to the episode in some way. After all, this is Moffat's final season as Doctor Who showrunner, which means the writer has to be getting at least a little bit nostalgic for his early Who episodes, right?

Our pitch? A crazy, narrative-packed hour that melds "The Empty Child"/"The Doctor Dances,""The Girl in the Fireplace," and "Blink" in one, early-Moffat-themed episode. Make it happen, BBC. You know you want to break out the gas masks and clockwork people again.

Block 2 of filming has begun for Doctor Who series 10 in Cardiff. We know this because DoctorWhoTV.co.uk spotted some tweets from Mark Llewellyn, which reveal Peter Capaldi and Pearl Mackie in some natty period clothing...

Since showrunner Steven Moffat is on the way out, it isn't outrageous to assume that Peter Capaldi will leave Doctor Who at the end of series 10 as well. But, if you've been thinking that, it seems like you were wrong.

"I have no reason to suppose that I’m writing out a Doctor," Moffat said about series 10, in the latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine. "Peter is loving the role, and long may he do so."

And what about the chances of a victory lap of old companions, a la Russell T. Davies' swansong, "The End of Time?" Apparently, the Moff isn't planning on doing that, either.

"The departure of a showrunner doesn’t mean anything to the audience," Moffat explained. "Most of the audience doesn’t know that I exist, so they’d go blank if I attempted to wave goodbye to them. Oh, the embarrassment that would be. So I’m damned if I’m imposing my departure on the show. I just want to do a good one, before I hand over to Chris [Chibnall]."

Doctor Who Magazine issue 502 is on shelves now.

Doctor Who Season 10 Premiere Date

Doctor Who series 10 will premiere in Spring 2017, but there WILL be at least one new Doctor Who episode in 2016 in the form of this year's Christmas special. So the wait isn't THAT unbearable...
