David O. Russell is bringing his biggest guns out for his upcoming cop series. Russell’s upcoming mafia crime series, set to star Oscar-winners Robert De Niro and Julianne Moore, was picked up by Amazon and The Weinstein Company, according to a report by Deadline. The as-yet-untitled series was picked up for two eight-episode seasons for $160 million.

All sixteen episodes of the series will be written and directed by Russell. It will be produced by Scott Lambert, Alexandra Milchan, and Anapurna Pictures founder Megan Ellison.

De Niro starred in Russell’s films Silver Linings Playbook and Joy.

There aren’t many details about the project. Rumors say it will be a crime thriller set in the 1990s.

The series will be Russell’s biggest dip in TV. In the last ten years, Russell developed TV projects for FX, CBS and ABC. He was the executive producer on Syfy’s five-episode series Outer Space Astronauts in 2009.

The project is being produced by Megan Ellison of Annapurna Pictures, which produced Joy and American Hustle. Alexandra Milchan and Scott Lambert are onboard as producers on the as-yet-untitled series.

De Niro will next be seen as stock cheat Bernie Madoff in the HBO movie Wizard of Lies, which is being directed by Barry Levinson. Moore will next be seen in the film Wonderstruck, which is being directed by Todd Haynes.
