Christopher Meloni, who played an intrepid and passionate detective on Law & Order: SVU is going to play a formerly great detective gone to seed on Syfy Channel’s adaptation of Grant Morrison and Darick Robertson’s New York Times best-selling graphic novel Happy! The script will be written by Morrison and Brian Taylor (Jonah Hex, Crank), who will also direct. Meloni will executive produce the pilot.
Meloni , who also put in memorable turns on True Blood, Man of Steel, Harold and Kumar and The Daily Show, where Meloni took on the pepper-spray cop Tony Bologna, will play Nick Sax, a former “rock star detective” (according to Deadline) who makes Bologna look almost palatable.
“Meet Nick Sax,” reads the official synopsis “a corrupt, intoxicated ex-cop turned hit-man, adrift in a stinking twilight world of casual murder, soulless sex, eczema and betrayal. With a hit gone wrong, a bullet in his side, the cops and the mob on his tail, and a monstrous child killer in a Santa suit on the loose, Nick and his world will be changed forever this Christmas. By a tiny blue horse called Happy.”
Meloni currently stars on WGN’s Undergroundand will return to Netflix’s Wet Hot American Summer season 2.
