Sesame Street Movie Coming From Night At The Museum Team

David Guion and Michael Handelman will follow that bird in upcoming Sesame Street movie.

Sesame Street, the children’s TV workshop that changed early education, will be returning to the big screen for the first time since the 1985 film Sesame Street Presents: Follow That Bird. The upcoming movie live-action Sesame Street movie will be written by David Guion and Michael Handelman, who wrote Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, Night at the Museum 3 and Dinner for Schmucks for Warner Bros., who took over the film from 20th Century Fox. The pair take over for writers Joseph Mazzarino and Mike Jones.

Like Disney’s recent Muppet films, the Sesame Street movie will be set in New York City. The 47 year-old children’s show was recently picked up by HBO as part of their children’s programming block.

The new Sesame Street movie will be directed by Shawn Levy, who helmed the Night at the Museum trilogy anf made Arrival and Stranger Things. Levy first tried take Sesame Street to the big screen in 2012 for Fox. Levi will produce alongside Michael Aguilar and Guymon Casady. Sesame Workshop will also be co-producing. Mark Gordon is executive producer. The project will be overseen by Jesse Ehrman and Cate.

Guion and Handelman are currently writing the screenplay for Agent Century 21 with Cameron Diaz, Neighborhood Watch for Paramount, and an untitled project about a Shakespearean theater company that will star Will Ferrell.
