Vikings will return for the second half of its fourth season on Wednesday, November 30th at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT with the first of ten remaining episodes in the show’s new time slot.

In a plot twist few saw coming, Vikings time jumped into the future, and the midseason finale brought with it a new era for Ragnar’s sons, now of age and poised to take over where their father left off. Fans may be forced to come to grips with the new guard taking over, and whether or not Ragnar (Travis Fimmel) survives to see season five remains a mystery.

In the midseason premiere, Ragnar’s reappearance in Kattegat finds him handling unfinished business in Wessex with King Ecbert (Linus Roache), while the long awaited face-off between Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) and Aslaug (Alyssa Sutherland) appears imminent. Apparently disinterested in following in his father’s footsteps, Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig) prepares to set out on a voyage to explore the Mediterranean in an innovative new boat built for him by Floki (Gustaf Skarsgård).

“This season is monumental and unlike anything we’ve ever done,” said Michael Hirst, creator and writer. “We’ve propelled ‘Vikings’ to the topmost level of historical drama as we follow storylines inspired by real life events such as Bjorn Ironside sailing through the Mediterranean and Ivar the Boneless becoming the most feared warrior of all time. It’s not a story of one man, but a saga of Ragnar and his sons.”

Creator and sole writer Michael Hirst is currently overseeing production of season five in Ireland as the cast welcomes Golden Globe Award winner Jonathan Rhys Meyers (The Tudors) in a still undisclosed role.

Vikings remains a top ten cable scripted drama and drew 4.3 million total viewers in the Live +7 category, and 1.8 million in 18-49 demographic during its season four ten week run that ended in April.

Vikings Season 4 Trailer

The History Channel released a trailer for Vikings season 4 just before the new year, and it appears as though the Ragnar's tenuous position among his people with the absence of Rollo will be taking center stage. Although Ragnar enjoyed a surprising victory in Paris at the end of season 3, there are those who are speculating on the fate of the kingdom should Ragnar die of his illness. Political maneuvering is tricky, especially with the perception that Rollo betrayed his people by staying in France.

The trailer below is rife with plenty of what fans have enjoyed from Vikings in past seasons, and it looks like they won't be disappointed this season either.
