Mark the date and time. Netflix is now offering a download option. The online streaming media giant just announced they will allow offline playback on phones and tablets, which means that, now, you can enjoy your favorite Netflix TV shows and movies from the comfort of... well, anywhere.

The download feature is included in all plan levels and is available for both Android and iOS. (Though you will probably have to update your app.) It's already available, but don't expect to go downloading every Netflix title. Only some Netflix content will have the "download" option. There seems to be a particular focus on Netflix original content. For example, titles currently available for download include: Orange is The New Black, Narcos, and The Crown.

Netflix Director of Product Innovation Eddy Wu said in the blog announcement:

While many members enjoy watching Netflix at home, we’ve often heard they also want to continue their Stranger Things binge while on airplanes and other places where Internet is expensive or limited. Just click the download button on the details page for a film or TV series and you can watch it later without an internet connection.

According to the Netflix help page on the subject, you can chose either a "standard" or "higher" quality for download, which is helpful if you don't have a lot of storage on your mobile device. No news yet on whether there will eventually be a desktop download feature as well, but I'm trying not to look a gift horse in the mouth.
