A Supergirl set photo gives fans a look at Lynda Carter’s Season 2 role as a stunning POTUS.

Supergirl marks a monumental sophomore season shift from CBS over to the more welcome superhero auspices at The CW. Amongst the array of immense changes in store for the show, both behind-the-scenes and onscreen, its titular character in Melissa Benoist’s Kara Danvers/Supergirl will also find herself hobnobbing with the President of the United States. – At least, the one on her version of Earth, played by former Wonder Woman Lynda Carter. Now, a first look at the iconic television twirler as leader of the free world has been posted!

Supergirl star Melissa Benoist took to Instagram to post a quick black and white snapshot, showing herself in full Supergirl regalia posing next to a business-suited Lynda Carter, presumably in the outfit in which she will embody the (thus far unnamed) onscreen chief executive; a role that will supposedly recur throughout the upcoming Season 2. Besides dismissing any unusual attributes that Carter’s POTUS might have carried, the photo isn’t particularly revelatory. However, it’s a nice piece of promotion that should get fans properly hyped for the rejuvenated second season and its imminently-utilized canonical connection to the other CW superhero shows.

With the subtle caption, “Met a wonderful woman today @reallyndacarter,” Benoist was clearly showing the proper superheroic respect to Carter, who cemented herself in pop-culture posterity as DC Comics’ Amazonian ass-kicker on television's Wonder Woman, playing the character from 1975-1979. Astoundingly, Carter’s small screen version of the famous female comic book hero (barring a failed 2011 TV pilot starring Adrianne Palicki,) remained the definitive live-action Wonder Woman for some forty years… at least, until Gal Gadot’s reinvented, solo franchise-destined version debuted on the big screen in this past March’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

While Supergirl Season 2 might see our heroine becoming tight with a president who could be hiding a Lasso of Truth under her pantsuit, her most exciting prospects still reside with the ultra-ambitious crossover event that will team the Girl of Steel with her new fellow CW comic book peers of Arrow, The Flash (who she already met in a crossover episode earlier this year,) and the time-bending team ensemble Legends of Tomorrow. The 4-part crossover – possibly taking place early in the upcoming fall TV season – will be a colossal codification of continuities that essentially christens Supergirl as being part of The CW’s DC Comics TV universe developed by Greg Berlanti.

Supergirl readies its moment to whoosh into The CW’s growing lineup of superhero shows when the series returns for Season 2 on October 10.
