Aaron Paul’s post-Breaking Bad “path” will lead him to developing a series of vengeful intrigue called Blackmail.

Life after AMC’s television phenomenon Breaking Bad has been generally good for its co-star Aaron Paul. His (moderately successful) efforts on the big screen steadily complement his streaming small screen work appearing on Hulu’s acclaimed religious group drama The Path and voicing a key role on Netflix animated series BoJack Horseman, both of which sees him fielding the additional duties of a producer. Consequently, Paul will soon make the jump to developing a show in the form of an upcoming NBC drama.

According to Variety, Aaron Paul will be proud as a peacock, working with Big Three network NBC to develop a drama tentatively titled Blackmail. The prospective series will have Paul assume the duties of an executive producer alongside John and Thomas Sonntag (who mark their first TV sale). Paul boards the project under the banner of his Lucid Road company with the Sonntag siblings also reportedly expected to write the would-be NBC series. The project is planning a conventional hour-long format.

The title Blackmail will certainly prove apropos, with the plot centering on a series of blackmail plots rooted in sexual intrigue and generalized revenge. The show will reportedly center on a young married couple who, after experiencing a serious accident of some kind, decide to use the scintillating subterfuge of the practice known as, get ready for it... blackmail to wreak revenge on the man supposedly responsible for the tragic event. The method of said blackmail will utilize the leverage of his apparent infidelity to his fiancée. However, the central couple bit off a little more than they can chew, learning that they have unwittingly tapped into some sinister forces beyond their basic comprehension. Yet, in a way almost akin to Breaking Bad's Walter White himself, they start to transition from the initial (almost understandable) motive of their dubious behavior toward embracing the power it seems to yield.

At this point, it is unclear if Aaron Paul will actually appear on Blackmail. He’s currently booked for his own share of roles in upcoming films, Come and Find Me and The 9th Life of Louis Drax. Plus, the confirmed second season of The Path is also expected to drop sometime in 2017. However, with Blackmail possibly arriving on the platform of a major Big Three network like NBC, Paul might just nab a role, taking advantage of the fact that he’s tight with the show’s exec producer, since, you know, it’s him.
