Mysteries abound in the first trailer from this original Netflix series starring Brit Marling...

Only Netflix could get away with dropping the trailer and release date for a show only a few days before it is set to "air." That's exactly what the streaming media giant did with The OA, a new eight-episode series from actor-writer Brit Marling (Another Earth) and director-writer Zal Batmanglij (Sound of My Voice, The East) that will launch on Netflix this Friday. Check it out...
The OA is about a twenty-something girl named Prairie Johnson (Marling) who returns home after seven years of being missing, miraculously healed of her blindness. As Netflix reports: "Some hail her a miracle, others a dangerous mystery, but Prairie won’t talk about her seven years missing with the FBI or her parents."
The OA is very mystery-based, which is why its surprise announcement is pretty fitting for the show's question-driven show that Marling and Batmanglij wrote together. If you're eager to start looking for clues about what the heck is going on in The OA and what Praire experienced during those seven missing years (do we hear any votes for aliens?), then you can head over to the show's official Instagram page, where puzzle-arranged clues abound.
In addition to Marling, other cast members appearing in The OA include: Emory Cohen (Brooklyn, The Place Beyond the Pines), Scott Wilson (The Walking Dead, Junebug), Phyllis Smith (The Office), Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter, Fury, Dig), Alice Krige (Star Trek: First Contact, Silent Hill), Patrick Gibson (The Tudors), Brendan Meyer (Mr. Young, The Guest) and newcomers Ian Alexander and Brandon Perea.
The OA hits Netflix this Friday, December 16th.
