A new How I Met Your Mother spinoff is being developed at 20th TV from the folks behind This Is Us.
History is repeating itself, as there is a new attempt to get another How I Met Your Mother spinoff up off the ground.
After CBS neglected to pick-up the Greta Gerwig-starring How I Met Your Dad pilot to series, Deadline is reporting that the idea is being given another go with How I Met Your Father. The new project will be different from the last attempt, with new writers and a new cast, but will share the same premise.
Not a direct spinoff in that it will not feature any of the former cast members or continue their story, but will essentially use the same storytelling technique, How I Met Your Father will see a mother telling the story of how she met her spouse to her children.
The script is still in the works from This Is Us co-executive producers and writers Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger. 20th TV is developing the project as a part of Aptaker and Berger’s overall deal. How I Met Your Mother creators Carter Bays, Craig Thomas and Emily Spivey will serve as executive producers, though any further involvement is up in the air. Though CBS is figured to be the landing point for the new series, it’s said that the project is being shopped to all networks.
