Doctor Who Season 10 Latest News
This evening in London saw the first screening of this year’s Doctor Who Christmas special, "The Return of Doctor Mysterio." Lots of details about it remain under wraps, but after the screening, a Q&A took place, and a few new details about series 10 of Doctor Who came to light.
Firstly, we learned that Matt Lucas’ Nardole, who makes a return appearance in the Christmas special, is back in series 10. Not just for a one-off appearance. “You’re stuck with me for a little bit!” he told the crowd. He confirmed that his character is given a job by the Doctor, but turns out to be – as he said to Peter Capaldi - a “bit of a thorn in your side.”
It sounds – although wasn’t confirmed – that we’re going to be getting quite a few episodes with The Doctor, Nardole, and Pearl Mackie’s Bill in the TARDIS together. The character of Nardole has evolved slightly, and Lucas – wary of spoilers – described him as “a sort of valet to the Doctor.”
The Christmas special ends with a Coming Soon trailer, incidentally, teasing elements of what lies ahead. There’s a lot of Bill in the trailer, and a Dalek in there as well.
Peter Capaldi, meanwhile, talked about things going a little bit back to Doctor Who roots with series 10, not least because the character of Bill is human. “Essentially, it’s a mysterious stranger from outer space with his time and space machine, whisking Bill off into the corners of the universe to blow up monsters,” he said.
Finally, we were teased that we’re getting a mix of new and old monsters (plural with regards to old ones, although that may be just the way that Steven Moffat said it) in the forthcoming series. And as for a tease for one of the new ones?
Well, as Capaldi warned, “be careful when you hear a creak when you a step on a floorboard. I think you should think twice about what the creak is.”
It's also been confirmed (thanks DoctorWho.TV!) that writer Toby Whithouse ("School Reunion," "The Vampires of Venice," "The God Complex," "A Town Called Mercy," "Under the Lake," "Before the Flood") will be back for series 10 with an episode that Moffat has described as "BRILLIANT."

Doctor Who Season 10 Release Date
Doctor Who series 10 will premiere in Spring 2017, but there WILL be at least one new Doctor Who episode in 2016 in the form of this year's Christmas special. So the wait isn't THAT unbearable...
Spotted by our pals over at Cultbox is this short fan video by @CreativeCatFX filmed on the set of Doctor Who series 10, which features Peter Capaldi meeting and greeting young fans.
Asked by a fan when the Doctor would be making a return to BBC One, Capaldi replies, "We'll be on at Christmas and then it starts again in April, I think."
That narrows down the BBC's previous "spring 2017" start date announcement to the show's traditional month of April. Good stuff.
