It's felt like a soap opera, but the Twin Peaks revival is finally on track. Production on the new season of Mark Frost and David Lynch's damn fine cult drama is underway. The Twin Peaks revival was officially pushed back until 2017. So maybe the #TwinPeaks2016 hashtags were a bit ambitious. CBS head honcho Les Moonves confirmed the news to Variety, though if you followed your leads like Dale Cooper, you'd have seen this coming for some time.

It's been quite a year for Twin Peaks fans. First, it seemed as though David Lynch left production only a few months after the continuation on Showtime had been announced. Then Showtime and Lynch reconciled, and the auteur was back. Now in the process of filming, we'll be constantly updating this hub as your souce for Twin Peaks news...

Twin Peaks 2017 Revival: The Latest News

Is the Twin Peaks 2017 revival dropping out of the blue like a mix tape? Actress Sherilyn Fenn posted a not-so-cryptic message on Twitter that hinted at the revival airing "sooner than you think."

Meanwhile, David Lynch is returning to play FBI chief Gordon Cole! Watch him eat a donut in the video below:

Twin Peaks 2017 Revival Premiere Date

An official premiere date is TBA. During the summer, co-creator Mark Frost, during a visit to the National Baseball Hall of Fame of all places, gave an update on the show: "We’re coming back with season three of Twin Peaks after a 25-year absence. We’ve finished the scripts, we start production in September, and that will be coming out on Showtime sometime in 2017."

The reason 2016 was pegged as the ideal time for the revival was because it marked 25 years after the final episode aired. They'll now have to settle for 26.

Well, at least we know it's definitely happening.

Speaking at the TCA press tour, Showtime boss David Nevins revealed that shooting is ahead of schedule for Twin Peaks. Half the season has already been shot, meaning we'll likely see Twin Peaks in early 2017.

Nevins told EW that he’s seen about 25 minutes of cut-together footage in an editing room. “It was stupendous," he told EW, "It was incredibly exciting. I don’t want to sit here and overhype it, but I was incredibly excited. You definitely felt like you were in the hands of a master.”

Twin Peaks Revival Cast

Kyle MacLachlan will return for a damn fine cup of coffee as FBI Agent Dale Cooper.

Along with MacLachlan, Sherilyn Fenn was one of the first series regulars to sign on. Deadline reported that she'll reprise her role as Audrey Horne.

Clearly Albert Rosenfield did not get enough of the morons and half-wits, dolts, dunces, dullards and dumbbells in the town of Twin Peaks. Deadline is reporting that Miguel Ferrer will reprise his role as FBI Agent Albert Rosenfield for the Twin Peaks revival. Ferrer has recently been a regular on NCIS: Los Angeles

Among the other rumored returnees: Sheryl Lee, who played Laura Palmer, was photographed by paparazzi filming scenes with MacLachlan.

Oscar-nominated actress Laura Dern (Enlightened) will join the revival in a mysterious role according to a report from TVLine. There's a theory floating around that Dern will play Agent Cooper’s previously unseen secretary Diane. In what could be a nice ode, Dern and Kyle MacLachlan teamed up in David Lynch’s cult classic Blue Velvet.

According to EW, a source revealed that Jim Belushi (According to Jim) has been added to the show’s roster.

TVLine reports that Peter Sarsgaard (The Killing, Green Lantern) has joined the cast of the Twin Peaks revival in an undisclosed role.

Amanda Seyfried (Big LoveLes Miserables) signed on to play a "new, pivitol" character for several episodes.

It is also expected that Robert Knepper (Prison Break)and Balthazar Getty (Brothers & Sisters) will join the cast.

Showtime released the full cast list for the upcoming Twin Peaks revival, including all 217 actors. Most of the big names were already confirmed, but here are the notable cast members via Variety

David Duchovny, Alicia Witt, David Patrick Kelly and Harry Dean Stanton. Series lead Kyle MacLachlan had already been set to return.

New cast members include Monica Bellucci, Jim Belushi, Jeremy Davies, Laura Dern, Hailey Gates, Balthazar Getty, Ernie Hudson, Ashley Judd, David Koechner, Matthew Lillard, Trent Reznor, Tim Roth, Amanda Seyfried, Tom Sizemore, Jessica Szohr, Eddie Vedder and Naomi Watts.

Twin Peaks Revival Teasers

Showtime announced the beginning of production with a brief behind-the-scenes video.

Before the season premiere of Homeland, Showtime dropped another Twin Peaks promo teaser, with no sign of a “2016” arrival, using old footage. This one features Michael J. Anderson’s Man From Another Place.

Have a look:

This isn't the first Twin Peaks revival promo we've seen. David Lynch dropped the first one in October 2014:

Grammy-winning composer Angelo Badalamenti will return, too. He'll bring the iconic sound back for the revival after writing the theme music for the original run. Showtime released a video to mark the occasion.
