Ultimate Spider-Man has been canceled, but there's a brand-new Spider-Man animated series on the way for 2017!
Back at New York Comic Con in October, Marvel revealed that a brand new Spider-Man animated series is on the way for 2017. Marvel Animation’s Cort Lane (Senior Vice President Animation and Family Entertainment) announced that next year “a brand new Spider-Man series, one we’ve been working on for a few years now will make its debut." The new series, titled simply Spider-Man, "will follow the adventures of Peter Parker from the very beginning. It’s filled with humor and heart and we have an amazing creative team coming.”
Stephen Wacker (Vice President Current Series & Development) mentioned some talent behind the new series and announced that one of the series consultants will be current Amazing Spider-Man comic book writer Dan Slott. The series will pull a great deal from Slott’s nine year run on the comic, including the addition of Max Modell, the head of Horizon Labs and mentor to Peter Parker. Modell will be voiced by Fred Tatasciore.
The panel showed a clip of the new Spider-Man that featured a Peter Parker in a very Tobey Maguire looking makeshift costume trying to stop a robbery. This leads to the unveiling of a new animated Vulture.
The new series will arrive in the summer, according to this teaser from Disney XD:
As for Ultimate Spider-Man, the long running series will be, according to Lane, “ending after one hundred and four episodes, which is a whole lot more than we thought we’d get when we started. We had a very satisfying run.” The final two episodes will be called "Graduation Day" and they'll air in 2017. The Marvel Animation panel showed a clip from this finale that featured Spidey going up against the Sinister Six for the life of Norman Osborn.
As for the remainder of the Ultimate Spider-Manepisodes, Lane promised big things in store for Mary Jane Watson, an arc featuring Carnage, and "huge plans" for Miles Morales after the end of Ultimate Spider-Man. Just remember, there are rumors that the Spider-Man animated movie due in 2018 will feature Miles.
