Documentary Now! season two has something for the politicos, foodies, art-rock pioneers, and the men who sold the world.
Documentary filmmaking can be a magical; Just in recent memory, the medium has exposed seemingly obvious truths about gun violence, opened our eyes (and mouths) to food production issues we normally wouldn’t hear about, and of course, freed Brendan Dassey.
It’s easy to overlook decades of great documentary filmmaking when we’ve been spoiled by films that have entered public discourse in such a profound way in recent years. Luckily, IFC’s Emmy-nominated series Documentary Now! isn’t here to supersize anything. The faux documentary series from creators and stars Fred Armisen and Bill Hader and executive producer Seth Meyers is back to remind us that if we’re not looking close enough, history will be repeated. Or parodied in side-splitting ways.
Their upcoming 51st season (not actually, it’s season two), is once again hosted by the unmistakable Helen Mirren and premieres on Wednesday, September 14th at 10 p.m. on IFC.
The first episode couldn't be more timely. They'll open season 51 with a parody of one the great political documentaries ever made, The War Room. Catch a peek into the upcoming season with the trailer below…
