Salem concludes its run with the promise of new dawn for gods and monsters.

WGN's supernatural period series Salem will end its three season run in a chilling finale. The witches thought they disposed of the devils, but some evils can't be locked away. Dark forces are at work against other, darker forces and only the darkest force wins.

“Black Sunday,” written by written by Adam Simon and directed by Brannon Braga (Star Trek), airs on Jan. 25 as the final battle wages for all the souls in the town of Salem.

Mary Sibley and her bewitched followers have less than 24 hours to save Salem starting in the New Year. After that, the new world will awaken to a new age with new gods and monsters. That is, if they wake up at all. The barber pole runs white with Red Mercury and it’s blasting power is enough to send the whole of New England to Hell. WGN released the trailer for the final two episodes of Salem.

According to the official synopsis:

Mary Sibley’s journey comes to a thrilling conclusion, as Sebastian and Alden face off to the death, Mary misplaces her trust in Anne and the fates of Tituba, Hathorne, Alden, Mary, The Boy, Mercy, and more are all determined.”

At its heart, Salem is a spellbinding love story set in desperate times. The press release talks of Sebastian being under the spell of the most powerful of the Essex witches, but it is a spell he happily succumbs to. Cotton Mather, the son of the late, but most revered, witch hunter Increase Mather is under the influence of his wife, pregnant with his son, even if it may not be hers. But he also willingly let himself go under her thrall once the booze wore off and he sent his fallen lover packing. Loving witches doesn't have to be so hard.

Here is the trailer for the final four episodes:

Salem “boldly re-imagines the infamous 17th century witch trials in colonial Massachusetts in a world where witches are real, but they are not who or what they seem,” reads the series overview.

“The third season of Salem dawns with the triumph of the witches' plan to remake the New World by bringing the devil to earth and making Salem his capital. But the devil is a liar, and instead of a New World free from murderous Puritan hypocrisy, his own plan will bring nothing but death and slavery with the ultimate aim of leading humanity to destroy itself.  And there's only one person on earth who can beat the devil -- the very witch that birthed him, his mother, Mary Sibley.  The only problem is—she's dead.  Or is she?”
