Edison will be a dark and funny musical starring Bob’s Burger’s John Roberts.

HBO is developing a half-hour dark musical comedy series with Amy Poehler and Brooke Posch’s Universal TV-based production company Paper Kite. The series, called Edison, will star John Roberts from Bob’s Burgers. Roberts will write the script with fellow Bob’s Burgers voice actor H. Jon Benjamin.
Edison is the first project HBO has bought from Poehler’s Paper Kite.
Based on Roberts’s life, Edison follows “a 40-year-old real estate broker who dreams of living in New York but is stuck in his hometown of Edison, N.J.,” according to the official synopsis.
The series will be produced by Roberts, Benjamin, Poehler, and executive produced by Brooke Posch with 3 Arts’ Dave Becky.
Paper Kite recently bought the rights to the upcoming book Moxie. It is also developing an as-yet untitled basketball comedy for Universal that Poehler will star in. Paper Kite also produces Broad City, Difficult People and will produce the pilot for ABC’s upcoming series Household Name, which will star TV legend Carol Burnett.
