Rick and Morty Season 3 News: The Latest
Huge news from Rick and Morty headquarters: Season 3 voiceover work has finally begun. Rick and Morty staff writer Mike McMahan tweeted out an image of the script with an all-important note:
If you've been checking back here for updates, you know that Rick and Morty season 3 is already written. The creatives are waiting on the animation team to finish their work so we can all enjoy new episodes. That reality is lost on some fans and question-askers, who are badgering co-creator Dan Harmon about the status of the new season.
At a taping of his Harmontown podcast, Harmon had a little fun with the audience:
Harmon initially took some of the blame for the long hiatus between seasons. While at Sundance Film Festival, Harmon told IndieWire:
“I don’t have a release date for Season 3. It’s not that I know it and I’m not allowed to say it; it’s [Adult Swim’s] domain. What I will tell you is it’s late because of us, it’s late because of me. If Justin were here he’d agree. He and I would go, ‘Yeah, we fucked up,’ and it’s hard to put your finger on how we fucked up. ‘Rick and Morty’ keeps taking longer and longer to write, and I don’t know why.”
Harmon went on to clarify these remarks in a long Twitter rant that assured us there is no beef in the studio and the premiere date is at the mercy of Adult Swim.
Meanwhile, Adult Swim released an interactive website to distract fans with a wormhole of viral Rick and Morty universe web content. Go find your favorite #KlaargWorthy content, ya Shimshams!
Rick and Morty Season 3 Release Date
At the end of season two, Mr. Poopybutthole said Rick and Morty season 3 wouldn't happen for another year and a half... so March 2017. After targeting the end of 2016, production delays pushed Rick and Morty season 3 closer to that butthole's prediction.
A few other Rick and Morty writers confirmed that episodes were completed as of Sept. 28th, pending review from their animation studio. At this point, it seems as though Rick and Morty season 3 will release in early 2017. Damn you, Mr. Poopybutthole!
While Adult Swim is still mum on the return date for Rick and Morty season 3, they did offer us Rick and Morty claymation spots to hold us over. It's not enough. We're itching for new episodes, brah!
Rick and Morty Season 3 Teasers
SDCC 2016 got a little schwifty with the Rick and Morty panel. Besides revealing that their dream guest star is Vin Diesel (he plays D&D!), cretaors Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland brought an exclusive new clip from Season 3.

Rick and Morty Season 3 Writers Room Notes and Interviews
Think making great television is easy? At San Diego Comic-Con, Harmon spoke with Den of Geek about the perfectionism that goes into the production of Rick and Morty.
Justin Roiland filled us in on the potential return of a fan-favorite theme episode, and possibly more Mr. Meeseeks.
The Rick and Morty writers room is getting more diverse, dawg! Hear it from Dan Harmon himself:
“We hired a bunch of new writers,” Dan Harmon told Den of Geekin an exclusive interview. “There was a craving for a gender balance in the writers’ room that we had never had, but I’m also very proud of the fact that we didn’t compromise ourselves following that craving. We just looked harder and I don’t know if it was coincidence or because the show was popping up on the radar of a lot of great female writers noticing, ‘Well, they don’t have any women writers in there. I’m gonna submit something.’ It was probably a combination of all those factors.”
Speaking on season two's cliffhanger, Harmon said Rick could, probably, maybe, be okay:
“I don’t think anybody wants to do a third season that simply spends a whole bunch of episodes dealing with a situation that we created at the end of the second season. So I think that’s a non-spoiler way of saying things should be okay pretty quickly.”
Rick and Morty Season 3 Episodes
At a Magic City Comic Con panel, Harmon revealed that Rick and Morty season 3 will comprise 14 episodes. Season 1 ran for 11 episodes, while season 2 was cut down to 10.
