The BBC and FX have officially confirmed that Taboo Season 2 with Tom Hardy is on the way.
Good news for fans of Tom Hardy-in-a-hat waging war on Regency London: Taboo Season 2 is officially confirmed.
According to chatter from co-creator Steven Knight, the second season has been in the bag for a while, but it's taken until today for the BBC to officially announce the recommission.
Season one told the story of the enigmatic James Keziah Delaney (Tom Hardy), a former East India Company man presumed dead following a shipwreck, and his return to London after a decade spent in Africa. It was a Gothic melodrama and a lurid tale peopled by larger-than-life characters and more than a few ghosts (literally - look out for five spectral visitations over the first eight episodes).
The official press release announcing the renewal was predictably full of praise for "the mesmerizing Tom Hardy" and the drama's "dark, complex and immersive storytelling," which is certainly one way of looking at it.
In the announcement, producer Ridley Scott describes Tabooas a "dark, dirty brute of a drama", while writer Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders) explains the thinking behind the first series, which he says "tried to take an impressionistic, rather than figurative, approach to a narrative which we hope more accurately portrays the spirit of an extraordinary time in history."
The second run will also comprise eight episodes and continues to be produced by Scott's Free London company with Knight on scripting duties.
