Loud EDM music, sandy beaches, free-flowing booze, and too many college students with a ton of disposable income – yep, it’s that time of year again, Spring Break. It’s officially the first day of spring, and in the spirit of that and day-glo bikinis, producers Chris Hanley and Fernando Sulichin have announced that they will be adapting a new digital series based on their 2012 film, Spring Breakers.

Written and directed by indie provocateur Harmony Korine, Spring Breakers starred Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine as college students who rob a bank to fund their Spring Break trip, and in the process get mixed up with an eccentric drug dealer played by James Franco.

The new digital series, which is being set up at soon-to-launch digital platform Blackpills, will not have any involvement from mastermind Korine, but the film’s producers Hanley and Sulichin, through Hanley’s Muse Productions will produce the series alongside Blackpills.

“Muse has always been a pioneer in detecting new young talents, so they perfectly complement our vision at Blackpills,” the company’s co-founder Patrick Holzman said. “We want to engage new audiences by releasing Spring Breakers in an unconventional digital format beyond one typical for movies. Muse’s passion for new progressive formats excites us and marks the start of a long partnership.”

Spring Breakers is just one of four scripted series from the producers and Blackpills. Casting for the Spring Breakers series is underway.
