Being personable is a good thing, right? Well, when you’re as personable as the titular character of Wilson, the new film starring Woody Harrelson and Laura Dern, it may be harder to get along with others that one thinks.

Based on the graphic novel by Daniel Clowes (who also served as the screen-writer), Wilson is the story of a guy who believes human interaction is decaying, and his fervent attempts to connect with others is often met with confusion or disdain. So who is the type of person that could be in a relationship with this, uncouth character? For the purposes of this tale, that due distinction belongs to a troubled woman herself, Pippi (played by Laura Dern).

We took some time to chat with Laura Dern about the troubles of Pippi’s past, and the complexities behind a woman who is more than just a lost soul with no control.
