Del Rio was released in the midst of serving a 30-day suspension for a Wellness Policy violation ...
WWE announced on Friday that it has released Alberto Del Rio.
"WWE and Jose Rodriguez (Alberto Del Rio) have mutually agreed upon the terms of his release as of today, September 9, 2016," WWE said in a very short statement on its website.
For what it's worth, unlike in past instances, WWE did not include the often mocked, "we wish him the best in his future endeavours" line its release.
Del Rio was in the middle of serving a 30-day suspension for his first violation of the company's Wellness Policy. His suspension began on August 18. Del Rio wrestled his last match on SmackDown August 17 in a losing effort against John Cena.
Paige, who has been reportedly dating Del Rio, is also in the middle of a 30-day suspension. Reports on Thursday suggested that she has hired legal representation and her future employment by WWE is up in the air.
