John Simm will reprise his role as The Master in the upcoming series of Doctor Who!

Well, this just made my brain explode. John Simm, the man who played the villainous Master during the Russell T. Davies years of NuWho, will reprise his role in series 10 of Doctor Who. This should come as a HUGE surprise, especially since the show currently has its own version of the Master - Missy, who is played wonderfully by Michelle Gomez.
The news was revealed via a press release from BBC that didn't go into too much detail as to how The Master will return to the show. Simm did drop at least a hint that we shouldn't read into too closely:
"I can confirm that it’s true, thanks to the power of time travel I’m back. It’s always a pleasure to work with this great team of people and I can’t wait for you all to see what the Master gets up to in the next series."

I think showrunner Steven Moffat might chalk this up to wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff. Like with episodes containing multiple Doctors, it may just be that Simm just happens to show up at the right place and at the right time. What we do know is that Simm and Gomez will appear on screen together, according to Moffat.
Moffat said of Simm's return, "Nothing stays secret for long on Doctor Who but you'll have to wait a little bit longer to see exactly what the Master is up to and how he makes his return to face the Doctor. It’s been a huge pleasure to have fan favorites John Simm and Michelle Gomez face to face in the same role! It’s not often you get to see a solo personality clash."
There was a moment in Missy's last appearance, the series 9 episode "The Witch's Familiar," as she found herself surrounded by Daleks, where she teased that she'd just had a great idea. Could bringing back her last regeneration be her brilliant plan? That would undoubtedly mean a lot of trouble for the Doctor.
Doctor Who series 10 will premiere on April 15.
