A fourth showrunner change is in store for Kiefer Sutherland's Designated Survivor.
The line of succession for the highest office at Designated Survivor continues to grow. ABC’s political thriller is once again replacing its showrunner.
Ahead of an expected Designated Survivor season 2 renewal, the series will make its fourth showrunner change with Jeff Melvoi departing according to an exclusive report from THR. There is a search underway to have a new showrunner in place for production of its sophomore season.
Designated Survivor’s original showrunner was Amy B. Harris, who was replaced with Jon Harmon Feldman after the pilot was picked up. Feldman left the show in December after inking an overall deal with ABC Studios. Melvoi has helmed the show since, but he’ll be leaving a series that has performed well for ABC.
The series is executive produced by and stars Kiefer Sutherland as the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development who is thrust into the presidency after a terrorist attacks kills everyone in the line of succession before him. ABC is yet to officially announce Designated Survivor season 2, but all signs point to a green light after they signed a deal with Netflix for the international rights to future seasons.
