The first SmackDown-specific PPV in years is here, and we have all of the WWE Backlash 2016 results as they come in.
Until Survivor Series happens in November, we’re down to the show-specific PPVs and the first one on the list is WWE Backlash 2016.
Introduced in 1999 as a spinoff of In Your House, Backlashused to be one of the big staples of WWE, though used in a way somewhat different than what we’re getting this year. Existing for 11 years, Backlash was created as the follow-up to WrestleMania. Sometimes it was about doing WrestleManiarematches. Sometimes it was about trying to build new matches out of WrestleMania’s momentum.

Now it’s just a follow-up to SummerSlamfor the SmackDownbrand, which was a bit underutilized at the show to begin with. But that’s okay, since SmackDownis currently the better show compared to Rawand has been pretty quality despite the weaker roster.

WWE BACKLASH 2016 RUMORS AND UNANNOUNCED MATCHES
The rivalry between Baron Corbin and Kalisto has been built up since before the brand split and in terms of storyline, the two were supposed to have a match at SummerSlam. Corbin beat the crap out of Kalisto backstage days before the event, which put Kalisto in no condition to perform. Corbin insisted that it was because Kalisto was too scared to face him. Kalisto hasn't been seen since, but maybe we'll get something involving this.
Bottom line is, there are only six matches announced as of this writing. We're due for an impromptu match or two. Probably something with Apollo Crews, who doesn't have much going on but is considered a big enough name on SmackDown. Look for a match or two to be thrown together for the pre-show.

Gavin Jasper wouldn’t mind if instead of a match, Miz just spends 20 minutes yelling at Daniel Bryan. Follow Gavin on Twitter!
