James Bond’s Pierce Brosnan goes west in AMC’s drama The Son.
Pierce Brosnan wrangled his first major TV role since Remington Steele. The former James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan is coming back to TV after for the starring role on a multi-generational epic The Son, a new Western genre series from AMC. Brosnan replaces actor Sam Neill, who dropped out.
The new teasers show Brosnan readying to tame the wild frontier. The series looks like it will channel classic “cowboy and Indian” westerns. This includes the tradition of beautifully shot exteriors of rugged American landscape.
Brosnan will play “The First Son of Texas,” Eli McCullough. The Native Americans taught Eli everything to know about the wild west because he was kidnapped by the Comanches when he was a child and was raised by the tribe. Eli’s father figure is war chief Toshaway (Zahn McClaron).
Henry Garrett will play Eli’s son Pete, who wants to do good by his old man. Sydney Lucal will play Eli’s tomboy granddaughter Jeannie.
The Son will be Brosnan’s first TV starring role in nearly 20 years.
Brosnan will play Eli McCullough, the head of a powerful Texas family who was born on the state’s founding as an independent republic. The family is having a tough time getting used to the less than Wild West. The Son also stars Henry Garrett, Zahn McClarnon, Paola Nunez and Sydney Lucas.
Brosnan's last starring TV role was his breakout performance in the NBC detective series Remington Steele, which ran from 1982 to 1987, opposite Stephanie Zimbalist. Though he did charm Marge Simpson on The Simpsons in 2001 and did a voice on Thomas & Friends in 2008. He also starred in the miniseries version of Around the World in 80 Days in 1989.
Brosnan played James Bond four times. Last year Brosnan co-starred in No Escape alongside Owen Wilson and Lake Bell; Survivor with Milla Jovovich; and Some Kind of Beautiful with Salma Hayek, Jessica Alba and Malcolm McDowell. Brosnan recently completed filming The Foreigner, which was directed by Martin Campbell and co-stars Jackie Chan. Brosnan will stars in the upcoming thriller I.T.
The Son was ordered straight-to-series. AMC will air 10 hour-long episodes in 2017.
The Son begins production this month.
