Into the Badlands Season 3 wasn’t a hard decision for AMC, since the network confirmed the renewal a month before season 2 ended.

Into the Badlands Season 3 is a go over at AMC! The series, blending an apocalyptic setting with mystical martial-arts tropes, established itself as a formidable peak television offering in its late-2015 Season 1 run. And since the second season is widely considered a big improvement, Into the Badlands Season 3 will happen in 2018, with a larger order of 15 episodes this time around.
AMC’s renewal for Into the Badlands Season 3 came in the middle of season two back in April. The network cited an average viewership of 3.6 million viewers per episode, with 2.1 million coming from the adults ages 25-54 demographic, also touting the series as the #4 ranked scripted drama on cable, only behind The Walking Dead, FX’s American Horror Story and Fear the Walking Dead, making it an AMC-dominant dominant top 5. As Charlie Collier, president of AMC, SundanceTV and AMC Studios expresses with enthusiasm:
“Into the Badlands looks like nothing else on television, a literal high-wire act attracting passionate and dedicated fans by the millions. Thanks to series creators and showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar, the terrific cast, led by Daniel Wu, the amazing martial arts team guided by the incomparable Master Dee Dee and fight directors Stephen Fung and Andy Cheng, and everyone else involved who brings this thrill ride to the fans.”
However, Into the Badlands has seen a slow hemorrhaging of viewership since its November 12, 2015 pilot brought in 6.3 million viewers and the series currently yields about half of its Season 1 averages. Yet, AMC – who own the series – maintains enthusiasm for Into the Badlands’ visually stunning lost-world, quasi-feudal setting and magnificent martial-arts sequences. The series was created by executive producers/showrunners/writers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar.
Into the Badlands stars American-born Hong Kong star Daniel Wu as Sunny, a former assassin (called a Clipper), who, after the Season 1 fallout with his former “baron” Quinn (Marton Csokas), is trying to find his way home to his love Veil (Madeleine Mantock) and newborn infant son, with a new roguish friend Bajie (Nick Frost) in tow. The series also follows Sunny’s apprentice M.K. (Aramis Knight), who possesses a dangerously uncontrollable power and The Widow (Emily Beecham), one of many barons who control the Badlands, who is using cold, calculating measures to make a better world. Stephen Lang, Sarah Bolger and Ally Ioannides also co-star.
Into the Badlands Season 3 Release Date
Into the Badlands can be seen on AMC on Sunday nights. While it was not specified as to when we should expect Season 3, spring of 2018 seems like a safe bet.
