We've got the Supergirl season 2 release date, the first teaser, casting details on all of the new characters, and much more!

There are plenty of ties to the Superman universe coming to SupergirlSeason 2 (notably the Man of Steel himself), as well as new friends, new villains, and more opportunities for crossovers with other CW superhero shows now that they're all on the same network.
This article is your one-stop quick guide to SupergirlSeason 2. Click the gallery up top to see images from the first two episodes, "The Adventures of Supergirl" and "The Last Children of Krypton."
Supergirl Season 2 News
Dichen Lachman (Anya on The 100) has been cast as DC Comics supervillain Roulette. Here's the official character description (courtesy of ComicBook.com)
Roulette runs an underground alien fight club in National City and she is eager to get Supergirl in the ring
There's a hint of a Legends of Tomorrow connection here, too. Roulette first appeared in JSA Secret Files #2 in 2001, and was introduced as a Justice Society villain. Since the JSA are such a major factor in Legends of Tomorrow Season 2, perhaps this is an indicator that there will be some additional opportunity for crossovers. But her MO is definitely the same here as it was in the comics.
Supergirl Season 2 Release Date
Supergirl season 2 will premiere on the CW at 8 pm on Monday, October 10th.
Supergirl Season 2 Trailer
And trust us on this...it's a teaser. This is almost certainly not footage from the Supergirlseason 2 premiere episode. Instead, it's just a neat showcase of the character's power, specifically flight. Remember when Arrowdid that cool Flashteaser with Barry running in to catch Ollie's arrow in mid-flight? Think of it like that.
This probably means we're going to get a proper trailer with some footage really soon, though. We've seen much more from The Flash, Arrow, and Legends of Tomorrow than we have from Supergirlso far. Expect that to change.

Supergirl Season 2 Cast and New Characters
Superman will appear in (at least) the first two episodes of SupergirlSeason 2. He'll be played by Tyler Hoechlin. We have loads of details about what to expect from Superman and Clark Kent on the show right here.
Longtime Superman supporting character Maggie Sawyer is coming to the show. Maggie is the head of the National City Science Police (the Science Police is a designation familiar to Legion of Super-Heroes fans, too). She's described as "out and proud," and she should be...she was one of mainstream comics first openly gay characters. According to THR, Floriana Lima (The Family) has been cast as Sawyer, who was first introduced in 1987 and became one of the first openly gay characters in mainstream comics.
As if having Superman around isn't enough, we're going to get a member of the Luthor family on Supergirl Season 2! Katie McGrath (Merlin) will play Lena Luthor when the show returns in October.
TV Line (who broke the casting news) provided a pretty detailed description of what Lena is going to be about:
Beautiful, powerful, and enigmatic, Lena arrives in National City on the heels of brother Lex’s incarceration hoping for a fresh start. Lena has taken over as CEO of her family’s billion-dollar-tech company, Luthor Corp, which has been tarnished by Lex’s evil infamy. Her goal? To re-brand the empire as a force for good. Lena wants to be seen as her own person, separate from her brother. Kara is drawn into Lena’s sphere and must determine if she is friend or foe.
This does somewhat beg the question of whether we'll be seeing Lex this year, too. One at a time, folks...one at a time.
But that's only the start. TV Line has some new casting breakdowns, and they're quite revealing.

Justice League supporting character Snapper Carr is coming to the CatCo newsroom, as well. He's not a teen sidekick, though. In fact, he's Kara's new boss.
Ian Gomez (Cougar Town) will play Snapper Carr, the new Editor-in-Chief of CatCo Magazine. Here's some official character description, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly:
Snapper’s commitment to hard-hitting journalism pushes CatCo reporters to dig deeper in the pursuit of excellence. He’s a man who tells people what he thinks of them, and his no-holds barred approach pushes Kara (Melissa Benoist) in unexpected ways.
Entertainment Weekly broke the news that Frederick Schmidt has been cast as John Corben/Metallo, who will appear in at least two episodes of Supergirl Season 2 (including the premiere). Corben was a shady character who, after sustaining horrific injuries, ends up with a Kryptonite-powered Cyborg body. The character has been menacing the DC Universe in various incarnations since 1959. He somehow hasn't made his way to the big screen yet, but has made appearances on small screen Superman adventures like The Adventures of Superboy and Smallville.
There's also The Doctor..."the diabolical leader of Project Cadmus who uses her surgical skills to implant prisoners with alien technology."TV Line speculates that this is actually Serling Roquette.
But then there's a mystery character, going by the name of "Nick Farrow" on the breakdown. Farrow is a "brash leading man" and "the son of a famous reporter" who is “looking to make a name for himself in the news world but the question of whether he can leave behind his former selfish and hedonistic ways will constantly arise. In hanging out with Kara, the hero in Nick might finally come out.” Sometimes these don't have real character names on there, so is Nick Farrow a cover for another DC superhero?
Other characters have been teased as well, including the idea of original Wonder Woman, Lynda Carter as the President of the United States. They also hinted at the prospects of Kon-El, Superboy, becoming a possible factor via Cadmus.
Well, the mystery of the Supergirl season one finale cliffhanger has been solved, as has the mystery of who The Vampire Diaries' Chris Wood is playing. It's not a tremendous surprise, but here it is...
The occupant of that other Kryptonian escape pod is none other than Mon-El. Mon-El isn't really a member of the House of El, and is in fact from the planet Daxam, a world with beings who have power levels comparable to those of Kryptonians. Essentially, imagine this scenario: you're on an intergalactic vacation, you land on Krypton, only for some nut named Jor-El to tell you to get the hell out of there because the planet is about to explode, and he gives you directions to Earth instead. You get out of there, only to lose your memory in transit, and wake up on a world where you have the same powers as two people with the same last name as the last person you saw: the solution? You're their brother, of course!

Anyway, Mon-El's real name is Lar Gand, and he eventually became a longstanding member of the Legion of Super-Heroes, a super team that absolutely exists in this show's continuity as we saw in the episode "Solitude." I promise to write much, much more about Mon-El in the coming weeks.
Oh, and here's something else to consider: Chris Wood is a Supergirl Season 2 series regular, so we're going to be seeing a lot of Mon-El. This is so cool. But then again, so is this...
And as if that isn't enough, we're also going to meet M'gann M'orzz, known to comic book fans (and especially Young Justice animated series fans) as Miss Martian. Sharon Leal has been cast in the role.
M'gann is a White Martian (remember that scary one from the episode that finally revealed Hank Henshaw's true nature?) who masquerades as a Green Martian, and is a powerhouse like J'onn J'onzz. Between Supergirl, Martian Manhunter, Mon-El, and Miss Martian, the power levels on this show are going to be asburd this season!
Supergirl Season 2 Story
So, these "official season synopses" that the CW released today for their superhero shows have all been maddeningly vague, but there's at least a few little details to get excited about tucked away in each. And the one for Supergirl Season 2 is no exception...
When she was 12 years old, Kara Zor-El escaped the doomed planet Krypton and was sent to earth where she was protected and raised by her foster parents, Jeremiah (Dean Cain) and Eliza Danvers (Helen Slater) and her foster sister, Alex (Chyler Leigh). Under their supervision, Kara learned to conceal the phenomenal powers she shares with her famous cousin, Superman, in order to keep her identity a secret.
Years later, Kara was living a “normal” life in National City, assisting media mogul and fierce taskmaster Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart) and working beside her friend and IT technician Winslow “Winn” Schott (Jeremy L. Jordan) and famous photographer James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks), who Grant hired away from Metropolis’s Daily Planet. When Alex’s life was
threatened in a plane crash, Kara took to the sky to rescue her. In the aftermath, Kara decided she could no longer sit on the sidelines and came out as Supergirl. She now balances her job at CatCo with her work at the Department of Extra-Normal Operations (DEO), a super-secret government agency where Alex also works. At first, the head of the DEO, Hank Henshaw
(David Harewood), was resistant to Supergirl joining the DEO, until it was revealed that Hank was actually J’onn J’onzz, the Martian Manhunter, who had promised Jeremiah Danvers on his deathbed that he would protect both Alex and Kara. It has since been discovered that Jeremiah is actually alive and being held by Cadmus, a dangerous quasi-military organization that sees all aliens as threats. In Season One, Supergirl soared fighting crime and battling various villains, chief among them two Kryptonians who were intent on destroying earth, but she has yet to find that same empowerment as Kara Danvers.
Now, in Season Two, Kara has left the safety of being Cat Grant’s assistant in order to figure out what she really wants to do, while as Supergirl she continues to work at the DEO., protecting the citizens of National City and searching for Jeremiah and Cadmus. Along the way, she will team up with Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) to battle new villains, as she strives to balance her personal life with her life as a superhero.
Supergirl Season 2 Crossovers
We also know that we will be getting a four-way crossover between Arrow, Supergirl, The Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow on The CW this year, but will that include the newly-cast Superman, set to appear in Supergirl season 2?...
Probably not. There are already enough characters to pack into that crossover without adding recurring ones — but that doesn't mean this Facebook photo of Stephen Amell in his street clothes and Tyler Hoechlin in his Superman costume doesn't still make us think about what is possible in the ever-growing Arrow-verse...
We'll update this article with more information as we get it.
