SmackDown's next PPV brings us a huge triple threat main event where AJ Styles defends the title against John Cena and Dean Ambrose.

WWE SmackDown recently had their first exclusive PPV in years with Backlash. Despite a tiny amount of matches, including one that had to be outright cancelled due to health issues, it turned out to be one of the best WWE PPVs of the year. Keeping that momentum going forward, up next is WWE No Mercy.
Much like Backlash, No Mercy is another WWE PPV mainstay from the past that’s coming out of retirement. It was originally a UK PPV back in early 1999. Then the following October, they did it again in the US and made it the go-to October PPV until 2008. It was also the title of arguably the greatest wrestling video game of all time.
No Mercy’s never really had its own PPV gimmick (which is probably why it had been phased out), but it was a SmackDown-exclusive show back when they were originally doing that, so there’s that.
I also feel the need to mention that the official theme song, "No Mercy" by Kit, kind of rocks.

WWE NO MERCY 2016 MATCHES

JOHN CENA VS. AJ STYLES (C) VS. DEAN AMBROSE
WWE World Heavyweight Championship
AJ Styles was already a pretty big name, but he solidified his spot on the roster by cleanly and decisively defeating John Cena at SummerSlam. Afterwards, Cena walked off into the sunset. The win propelled Styles into a title match against Dean Ambrose at Backlash. After a lengthy and fantastic match, Styles low-blowed Ambrose behind the ref’s back, hit the Styles Clash, and a new champion was crowned.
Ambrose was understandably mad about that and wanted a rematch. At the same time, John Cena returned and figured now was his time to try and tie Ric Flair for the record in world title reigns. It was decided that Styles would defend against both in a triple threat.
Later that night, Cena and Ambrose teamed up to defeat Styles and Miz. Afterwards, Ambrose dropped Cena with Dirty Deeds, much to the disgust of the crowd.
A week later, Cena vs. Ambrose was the main event. In a rather shocking upset, Ambrose defeated Cena cleanly.

BECKY LYNCH (C) VS. ALEXA BLISS
WWE Women’s Championship (SmackDown)
At Backlash, Becky Lynch defeated five other women to become the very first SmackDownWomen’s Champion, finishing off Carmella last. On the following SmackDown, those five women had a Fatal Five-Way to see who would challenge Becky at No Mercy. This time the win went to Alexa Bliss, who looks to be on her way to breaking out.
At the contract signing, the two had a war of words and Alexa momentarily took out Becky with a cheap shot, followed by flipping the table on her. As Alexa walked back up the ramp, Becky recovered and got her revenge before returning to the ring to sign her name on the dotted line.

BEAUTY AND THE MAN-BEAST (C) VS. THE USOS
WWE Tag Team Championship (SmackDown)
At Backlash, Heath Slater and Rhyno not only won the big tag tournament and championship belts, but they also landed Slater his much-needed contract. As for the Usos, they were forced to compete twice that night as punishment for injuring American Alpha’s Chad Gable. The fatigue was too much and they lost.
They had a match against American Alpha for the #1 contenders spot and won thanks to Gable’s bum knee. With no advantage in the way, the cruel Usos intend to crush the champs.
LIKELY AND UNANNOUNCED MATCHES
Nikki Bella vs. Carmella is practically a lock. In the lead-up to the Backlashtitle match, Carmella focused on Nikki out of jealousy of all the attention she was getting. Now her every waking moment appears to be dedicated to ending Nikki’s career. With neither in the title picture, that opens them up for a big PPV showdown.

Jack Swagger vs. Baron Corbin looks to be a thing. Swagger lost a random match on Rawand was asked about his expiring contract. He remained quiet, only to appear the next night on SmackDownto confront Baron Corbin after Corbin just punked out Apollo Crews. Corbin walked off and Swagger cut an awkward promo about how he jumped ship to SmackDown.
Randy Orton vs. Bray Wyatt will probably finally go down, especially since they had to pull Orton from Backlash. They’ve been killing time to build it over again by pretending that Erick Rowan splitting from Wyatt never happened.
