Vampires don’t just drink virgin blood because it sounds cool, we learned from Taika Waititi’s vampire comedy What We Do in the Shadows. They think of it more along the lines of someone enjoying a sandwich more knowing no one had fucked it. Paranormal Event Response Unit, a TV spin-off the New Zealand vampire film, will delve further into occult knowledge like this and why werewolves can’t stop cursing.

Paranormal Event Response Unit was created by Waititi and  Flight of the Conchords star Jemaine Clement, who played the 862-year-old vampire known as Vladislav in the 2014 mockumentary.

The six-episode spin-off series will follow police officers Karen and Mike as they try to keep the good people of Wellington, NZ, safe from the bad creatures that haunt the darkness.

"Comedy is serious business and notoriously hard to get right. We are delighted that Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi are bringing their talents to smaller screens," New Zealand On Air boss Jane Wrightson said in a statement.

New Zealand On Air announced it will also pay $240,000 for eight episodes of Waititi’s sketch webseries Only In Aotearoa to screen on Māori Television.

Paranormal Event Response Unitwill screen on TVNZ 2.
