Aquarius, David Duchovny’s Charles Manson series, ends before it reaches its bloody climax.

The moon has left the seventh house. Jupiter and Mars are askew and the age of Aquariushas come to an end. NBC announced that its period drama about the Charles Manson murders, Aquarius, has been cancelled. There will be no season 3. The series starred David Duchovny as Detective Samson Hodiak, who was hot on the trail of the Manson family antics. Hell, his character even got to jam with the ultimate twisted Beatles freak, but not on the song “Helter Skelter.”
The bloody writing was on the wall. NBC moved Aquarius from Thursday nights to Saturday nights and didn’t really tell the audience about the rescheduling. NBC’s entertainment president Jennifer Salke said the show’s odds of reaching season three were “tough.”
Aquarius, from creator John McNamara, was picked up straight to series in the summer of 2015. The entire first season was streamed in its entirety right after its premiere, which was commercial-free. All 12 episodes were online for four weeks.
The cancellation will give Duchovny more freedom to act in The X-Files season 11, which will be extended to an eight to 10 episode season.
Fox entertainment president David Madden confirmed last month that “significant talks” were underway with Duchovny, Gillian Anderson and creator Chris Carter.
“We would obviously love to do another season [but] schedules are hard,” Madden said at the time. “We’re working hard to get this done.”
