We've got everything you need to know about Supergirl Season 2 right here.

So, these "official season synopses" that the CW released today for their superhero shows have all been maddeningly vague, but there's at least a few little details to get excited about tucked away in each. And the one for SupergirlSeason 2 is no exception...

When she was 12 years old, Kara Zor-El escaped the doomed planet Krypton and was sent to earth where she was protected and raised by her foster parents, Jeremiah (Dean Cain) and Eliza Danvers (Helen Slater) and her foster sister, Alex (Chyler Leigh). Under their supervision, Kara learned to conceal the phenomenal powers she shares with her famous cousin, Superman, in order to keep her identity a secret.

Years later, Kara was living a “normal” life in National City, assisting media mogul and fierce taskmaster Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart) and working beside her friend and IT technician Winslow “Winn” Schott (Jeremy L. Jordan) and famous photographer James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks), who Grant hired away from Metropolis’s Daily Planet. When Alex’s life was

threatened in a plane crash, Kara took to the sky to rescue her. In the aftermath, Kara decided she could no longer sit on the sidelines and came out as Supergirl. She now balances her job at CatCo with her work at the Department of Extra-Normal Operations (DEO), a super-secret government agency where Alex also works. At first, the head of the DEO, Hank Henshaw

(David Harewood), was resistant to Supergirl joining the DEO, until it was revealed that Hank was actually J’onn J’onzz, the Martian Manhunter, who had promised Jeremiah Danvers on his deathbed that he would protect both Alex and Kara. It has since been discovered that Jeremiah is actually alive and being held by Cadmus, a dangerous quasi-military organization that sees all aliens as threats. In Season One, Supergirl soared fighting crime and battling various villains, chief among them two Kryptonians who were intent on destroying earth, but she has yet to find that same empowerment as Kara Danvers.

Now, in Season Two, Kara has left the safety of being Cat Grant’s assistant in order to figure out what she really wants to do, while as Supergirl she continues to work at the DEO., protecting the citizens of National City and searching for Jeremiah and Cadmus. Along the way, she will team up with Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) to battle new villains, as she strives to balance her personal life with her life as a superhero.

We also know that we will be getting a four-way crossover between Arrow, Supergirl, The Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow on The CW this year, but will that include the newly-cast Superman, set to appear in Supergirl season 2?...

Probably not. There are already enough characters to pack into that crossover without adding recurring ones — but that doesn't mean this Facebook photo of Stephen Amell in his street clothes and Tyler Hoechlin in his Superman costume doesn't still make us think about what is possible in the ever-growing Arrow-verse...

Supergirl Season 2 Premiere Date

Supergirl Season 2 will premiere on the CW at 8 pm on Monday, October 10th.

Supergirl Season 2 New Characters

So, we already knew that The Vampire Diaries' Chris Wood had joined the cast of Supergirl Season 2, although nobody was talking about who he's playing. And while there's still no actual word on who he is, we have a better idea of the character's geography.

It was revealed at SDCC that the Wood will play the mysterious occupant of the Kryptonian escape pod that we saw at the end of season one. While my personal preference would be for this to mean he's playing Mon-El (who turned out to not be a Kryptonian anyway...but that's a long story), Kara's not exactly thrilled reaction probably indicates it's somebody less friendly.

We already told you about Superman appearing in all his glory in the first two episodes of SupergirlSeason 2. He'll be played by Tyler Hoechlin.

Longtime Superman supporting character Maggie Sawyer is coming to the show. Maggie is the head of the National City Science Police (the Science Police is a designation familiar to Legion of Super-Heroes fans, too). She's described as "out and proud," and she should be...she was one of mainstream comics first openly gay characters. According to THR, Floriana Lima (The Family) has been cast as Sawyer, who was first introduced in 1987 and became one of the first openly gay characters in mainstream comics.

As if having Superman around isn't enough, we're going to get a member of the Luthor family on Supergirl Season 2! Katie McGrath (Merlin) will play Lena Luthor when the show returns in October.

TV Line (who broke the casting news) provided a pretty detailed description of what Lena is going to be about:

Beautiful, powerful, and enigmatic, Lena arrives in National City on the heels of brother Lex’s incarceration hoping for a fresh start. Lena has taken over as CEO of her family’s billion-dollar-tech company, Luthor Corp, which has been tarnished by Lex’s evil infamy. Her goal? To re-brand the empire as a force for good. Lena wants to be seen as her own person, separate from her brother. Kara is drawn into Lena’s sphere and must determine if she is friend or foe.

This does somewhat beg the question of whether we'll be seeing Lex this year, too. One at a time, folks...one at a time.

But that's only the start. TV Line has some new casting breakdowns, and they're quite revealing.

Justice League supporting character Snapper Carr is coming to the CatCo newsroom, as well. He's not a teen sidekick, though. In fact, he's Kara's new boss.

Ian Gomez (Cougar Town) will play Snapper Carr, the new Editor-in-Chief of CatCo Magazine. Here's some official character description, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly:

Snapper’s commitment to hard-hitting journalism pushes CatCo reporters to dig deeper in the pursuit of excellence. He’s a man who tells people what he thinks of them, and his no-holds barred approach pushes Kara (Melissa Benoist) in unexpected ways.

There's also The Doctor..."the diabolical leader of Project Cadmus who uses her surgical skills to implant prisoners with alien technology."TV Line speculates that this is actually Serling Roquette.

But then there's a mystery character, going by the name of "Nick Farrow" on the breakdown. Farrow is a "brash leading man" and "the son of a famous reporter" who is “looking to make a name for himself in the news world but the question of whether he can leave behind his former selfish and hedonistic ways will constantly arise. In hanging out with Kara, the hero in Nick might finally come out.” Sometimes these don't have real character names on there, so is Nick Farrow a cover for another DC superhero?

Other characters have been teased as well, including the idea of original Wonder Woman, Lynda Carter as the President of the United States. They also hinted at the prospects of Kon-El, Superboy, becoming a possible factor via Cadmus.

Supergirl Season 2 Cast

We expect everybody back, but there are disturbing reports that Calista Flockhart might not return as a series regular.
