In this week’s edition of Which Movie Is Lazily Going To Be Adapted By A Major Network? NBC is dusting off the 2002 film Blue Crush, which starred Kate Bosworth, Matthew Davis, Michelle Rodriguez and Sanoe Lake. The film was inspired by a magazine article titled “Life's Swell,” by Susan Orlean.

As we’ve seen close to 50 times in the last year (that’s not an estimate, we’re keeping track), studios are utilizing the rights to these old films to squeeze every last dollar out of their back catalog. This project comes from Universal and Imagine Entertainment, and Brian Grazer and Francie Calfo will serve as executive producers. Lizzy Weiss, who created Switched at Birth for ABC Family, will write the series.

NBC is starting to turn its programming slate around with younger-skewing fall hits This Is Us, The Good Place, and Timeless. Blue Crush, the story of three young female surfers, could, maybe, fit into that. 

We remain skeptical on the reboot front, with the major networks whiffing on shows like Minority Report, Uncle Buck, Rush Hour, Lethal Weapon, Limitless, and more. There are many more...
