Paul Feig, the director of the recent Ghostbusters reboot and Spy, will be producing new science fiction comedy series for Fox called Turned On. Feig and Fox were reportedly drawn to the project because of the strong  leading role it provides for a funny woman.

The spec script was written by Charlie Kesslering, who is currently assistant to James Corden, the host of The Late Late Show, and formerly an assistant at Creative Artists Agency.

Riding the android wave of movies like A.I. Artificial Intelligence, Ex Machina and HBO’s Westworld, Turned On will tell the story of a brilliant but awkward engineer who builds a robot to deal with life. But when the android starts to self-actualize, life gets more complicated.

There is no word on whether the project will take new talent for the cast or if Feig will dip into his personal repertory company of comic actresses like Melissa McCarthy.

Feig, who created the comedy series Freaks and Geeks, is also producing the upcoming comedy Mother/Daughter, starring Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn, for Fox. He is also in talks to direct a feature about a late night talk show host that will star Mindy Kaling and Emma Thompson. Feig also directed Unaccompanied Minors, Bridesmaids and The Heat. Feig also produced The Peanuts Movie for Fox.

The project will be produced by Jessie Henderson, co-president at Feigco Entertainment, along with Feig. Turned On will be overseen by Dan Magnante.
