The next version of Power Rangers is coming sooner than you think. Saban’s partnership with Nickelodeon is continuing through 2018, so Power Rangers isn’t going anywhere for the foreseeable future. This will keep Power Rangers on Nickelodeon through the franchise's 25th anniversary and the release of the bid budget movie from Lionsgate (coming in March 2017). So with Dino Charge wrapping up, it's time to start looking forward to Power Rangers Ninja Steel.

Here's everything we know so far!

Power Rangers Ninja Steel Cast

Here's the cast of Power Rangers Ninja Steel

  • Will Shewfelt as Brody, the Red Ranger
  • Chrysti Ane Lopes as Sarah, the Pink Ranger
  • Nico Greetham as Calvin the Yellow Ranger
  • Zoe Robins as Hayley, the White Ranger
  • Peter Sudarso as Preston, The Blue Ranger

Power Rangers Ninja Steel Release Date

At this year's Power Morphicon, they confirmed this will air in January 2017 on Nickelodeon. We'll update this with a firm date as soon as we have it.

Power Rangers Ninja Steel Villain

We were also given the name of the main villain for the season, which contradicts the original press release. The reigning champion of "Galaxy Warriors", Galvanax.

Power Rangers Ninja Steel Trailer

A trailer was shown at PMC that also featured a brief glimpse of a monster from the Super Sentai series that was skipped in favor of utilizing Ninninger, ToQger. Does this mean we'll be seeing more monsters from that Sentai season throughout Ninja Steel? We'll have to wait and see.

Power Rangers Ninja Steel Story

Thanks to the official press release, we’ve got a synopsis for new season, although this is now slightly out of date because of the villain details.

Saban's Power Rangers Ninja Steel starts deep in space, where Zircon is the reigning champion of the most popular intergalactic game show in the universe, and monsters battle to prove who is the mightiest warrior. Zircon is determined to become invincible by controlling the mythical Spirit Crystal, which contains six supernatural Ninja Power Throwing Stars. The only thing standing in his way is a new team of heroic teenage Power Rangers who possess the Spirit Crystal. The evil Zircon sends his warrior contestants down to Earth to steal the Crystal, where each epic battle against the Rangers is broadcast throughout the universe. Together, the Rangers must master their arsenal of Throwing Stars, Zords and Megazords, each made of legendary ninja steel, in order to stop this evil threat and save our planet from destruction.

The summary itself is intriguing, baring little resemblance to Ninninger. That series tackled a family legacy and ninja school while battling to become, “the last ninja.” Here, the villains seem to be the ones in competition with the Rangers caught in the middle. The best part is that all the battles will be broadcast throughout the universe. This gives me some hope that world building could become a central aspect of this new series, but only time will tell.

While early summaries for PR seasons have a tendency to not always reflect the final product, this summary has now been mentioned again by IGN four months after the intial reveal. It can still change, as it did with Dino Charge, but it looks like the intergalactic game show plot is here to stay. Excellent.

The show's logo not only incoprorates the main shurkien logo from its Japanese counterpart, Ninninger, but also has a space looking background to it. This lines up with the whole "intergalactic game show" section on the summary. Ninjas, in space? Power Rangers has done it before with Ninja Storm.
