Caught in the middle of a social media firestorm, it appears Amy Schumer may be leaving her hit series behind.

At the peak of the social media outrage following what many saw as insensitive comments made about sexual assault by Inside Amy Schumer writer Kurt Metzger, comedian Amy Schumer distanced herself from the now former staff writer. Clarifying that she didn’t “fire” Metzger, Schumer may have let it slip that there will be no fifth season for her Emmy-winning sketch comedy series.
““He isn’t a writer for my show because we aren’t making the show anymore. There are no writers for it,” Schumer tweeted.
You don't have to crawl inside the head of Amy Schumer to understand her less-than cryptic tweet. There’s no official word from Comedy Central on whether Inside Amy Schumer is cancelled or if Schumer has left the series. The network renewed the series for a fifth season back in January before season four aired this spring.
Metzger came under heavy social media fire after posting a message on Facebook questioning Upright Citizens Brigade’s banning of comedian who was accused of several sexual assaults. The writer didn’t back down from his stance, posting several more times on social media defending his position.
Schumer had been facing criticism online for not immediately distancing herself from Metzger’s comments. She broke her silence on Wednesday, tweeting: “I am so saddened and disappointed in Kurt Metzger. He is my friend and a great writer and I couldn’t be more against his recent actions.” In another tweet, she added: “Kurt does not work for me. He is not a writer on my show. Please stop asking me about it. His words are not mine.”
