Oliver's getting a new bodyguard in season 5. Will Diggle be jealous or relieved? We're taking bets...
Four seasons after Diggle first signed on as Oliver Queen's bodyguard on Arrow, Ollie is getting a new human shield to keep his pretty, pretty face from coming to any harm. (Or, you know, trying to while Oliver actually parkours his way to victory.) According to TVLine, Wil Traval has just been case as Christopher Chance — aka the Human Target. Such a forboding comic book alter ego name, isn't it?
Chance will be appearing as a guest character on the CW superhero show in episode 5 of the new season when he comes on as a bodyguard for Mayor Oliver Queen. In the comic books, the Human Target, a private investigator and master of disguise, is known for taking the identities of his clients to better ensure their safety. Seriously, though, how is he going to convince Oliver to let him do that?
If the name Wil Traval sounds familiar you superhero TV fans out there, it's probably because Traval appeared as Will "Nuke" Simpson in eight episodes of the first season of Netflix's Jessica Jones. Seems like Traval can't get enough superhero TV. We can relate.
This will be the third attempt to bring the Human Target character to on-screen life. Christopher Chance previously existed on the ABC TV show Human Target starring Mark Valley in 2010-2011. A short-lived ABC series was also attempted in the 1990s, starring Rick Springfield. It quickly faded into television obscurity... Hopefully, Arrow's version of the character has better luck...
