The only surprising thing about Castle Rock is that it's taken this long for someone to actually make it happen. JJ Abrams' Bad Robot will team with Warner Bros. TV to produce Castle Rock for Hulu. King fans certainly recognize Castle Rock as the setting for a number of King's most famous stories.

Check out the teaser...

Sam Shaw and Dusty Thomason, of WGN's criminally short-lived Manhattan, are writing the series. The Abrams/King/Hulu combination has worked well in the recent past with 11/22/63.

There's no other info out there just yet, but it sure sounds like this is the "Stephen King shared universe" we've been dreaming of for some time. Could Castle Rock be a Twilight Zone-esque anthology series that adapts a bunch of different Stephen King short stories? Will it try and create a distinct thread between them all with more recurring characters? There was this mysterious tease from Mr. Abrams that may or may not shed some light on things...

How, if at all, will this relate to other Warner Bros/New Line adaptations of King's work on the big and small screen? Does it take place before or after the events of something like Needful Things?

We'll stay on top of this.
