Erlich Bachman is no more. Silicon Valley is returning next season without its heart and soul.

HBO gave Silicon Valley season 5 the go-ahead, but they’ll be leaving behind a major Pied Piper investor (and innovator!). While the renewal news was floating around for the hit HBO comedy, Vulture also learned that T.J. Miller will be leaving the series at the conclusion of the currently airing fourth season.
The publication quoted an HBO rep on Miller’s departure: “In Erlich Bachman, T.J. has brought to life an unforgettable character, and while his presence on the show will be missed, we appreciate his contribution and look forward to future collaborations.”

Miller’s been a key part of Pied Piper and a fan favorite on Silicon Valley, but his star has risen in Hollywood circles since the show debuted in 2014. His recent credits include roles in Deadpool and Office Christmas Party, a recurring role in HBO’s Pete Holmes comedy Crashing, and he executive produces and stars in Comedy Central’s The Gorburger Show. Miller was arrested in December 2016 for an altercation with an Uber driver.
Silicon Valley will air 38 episodes through season four, which will end on June 25th. Season five will air in 2018. Silicon Valley was created by Mike Judge and Alec Berg. The show stars Thomas Middleditch, Zach Woods, Kumail Nanjiani, Martin Starr, and Amanda Crew.
