Purge franchise writer/director James DeMonaco is working on a TV series...

In just three short years, The Purge has entered our pop culture lexicon in a big way. Whether you’re a fan of gratuitous horror or not, their are plenty of stories to tell within the premise of the government allowing 12 hours of slaughter each year. Off that idea alone, we’ve gotten three Purge movies, numerous comedy spoofs (most famously in a great episode of Rick and Morty), and a bigger splatter than I’m comfortable with of purge jokes this election season.
You can see the trail of blood dripping from the silver screen to the small screen as interest in a Purge TV series is beginning to bubble, according to a scoop from Cinemablend. With the latest installment of the franchise, Purge: Election Year, topping $100 million at the box office, there remains a clear interest in the franchise. In an interview with Purge franchise writer/director James DeMonaco, the website published details on what a Purge TV series might look like.
It appears DeMonaco has been approached, though it doesn’t say by who, about bringing his brainchild to cable:
Not an anthology... I guess kind of an anthology -- more of an interwoven anthology. They came to me about a TV show, my idea is that you do six or seven storylines. And I would kind of intercut them, use flashbacks.
He went on to say that ideally, the series could work over 10 hours of television to flesh out his Purge universe. DeMonaco says whoever is involved is moving quickly with the project, so more news on a Purge TV series could be imminent.
