Here's your guide to the upcoming WWE PPV schedule for 2016 and beyond, from WWE No Mercy up through next year's SummerSlam!

In the mid-80s, WrestleManiastarted off as a closed-circuit event. Then The Wrestling Classic happened where you could see it on closed-circuit television or on pay-per-view. Soon WrestleManiapicked up on the whole PPV front and it was joined by the likes of SummerSlam, Survivor Series, and Royal Rumble. Attempts to expand the "Big Four" had differing levels of success with Tuesday in Texas, King of the Ring, and In Your House. The rise of the Monday Night Wars made monthly PPVs a regular thing and now that the WWE Network reigns supreme, it’s much more than that.
Now we have the big shows like WrestleManiaand Royal Rumble. We have the secondary shows like Paybackand TLC. We have the C-list and borderline impromptu shows like Elimination Chamber and Beast in the East. Then there’s the NXT TakeOvershows, which are always must-watch.
Here’s the calendar of what’s off on the horizon. Check back as we’ll be regularly updating.

WWE NO MERCY 2016 (SmackDown)
October 9, 2016
Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, California
No Mercyused to be an annual go-to PPV for WWE, but once Rawand SmackDown's split faded away, so did No Mercy. With the split back in action, so comes the PPV name that gave us one of the all-time best wrestling video games. Otherwise, No Mercy doesn't exactly have a theme to it. We have more details on this year's installment over here.

WWE HELL IN A CELL 2016 (Raw)
October 30, 2016
TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts
The Hell in a Cell match mainly happens for one of two reasons: either a rivalry needs that extra level of sadism and stakes to hopefully bring closure to the mutual hatred...or they need to plug in a couple names for the Hell in a Cell PPV. Get ready for one or two feuds to get a gimmick match that may or may not fit all that well considering it’s done for scheduling reasons. We have more on that over here.

NXT TakeOver: Toronto
November 19, 2016
Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario
The next big NXT event will be based on the annual Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. Tag teams from NXT's past, present, and perhaps even future will compete over the course of the month and change leading up to this event. The semis and finals will happen here.

WWE SURVIVOR SERIES 2016
November 20, 2016
Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Survivor Series is the down-on-his-luck relative to the other classic WWE PPVs.
Survivor Series used to be a big shot. A show that was nothing but elimination tag matches. Then its star faded as the company decided that those matches were no longer that important. If you’re lucky, you’ll get one or two of those matches on the show. Otherwise, it’s just another PPV and the only reason it hasn't been phased out completely is because it's sort of iconic.
At least this year it has an extra boost for being both a Rawand SmackDownaffair.

TLC: TABLES, LADDERS, AND CHAIRS (SmackDown)
December 4, 2016
American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas
TLCis a bit like Extreme Rules, only a bit more specific with the match types. Rather than just dominating the card with any gimmick match, the show tends to establish a Tables Match, a Ladders Match, a Chairs Match, and a TLC Match that puts all of them together. There was one year where they added a Stairs Match, but that was a gigantic bust.

WWE ROADBLOCK (Raw)
December 18, 2016
Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Earlier in 2016, Roadblockwas introduced as a pre-WrestleManiaevent. It was unimportant in the scheme of things and came off as a pumped-up house show, but with the bigger PPV schedule, it looks like we'll be seeing it one more time. What's weird is that originally, Roadblockgot its name because it's the last bump before WrestleMania. Now it's in December, so...last bump before Royal Rumble?

ROYAL RUMBLE
January 29, 2017
Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas
To many, it's the show you look forward to more than even WrestleMania. In the main event, 30 wrestlers compete in an over-the-top-rope elimination match with a new entrant coming out every 90 seconds. The winner gets a guaranteed title shot at WrestleMania. Always an interesting show, even if they take some terrible missteps.
Just so you know, in the previous several years, they've taken some terrible missteps.
Also, this installment is a bit special as it takes place in San Antonio, 20 years after the last time they did this. Expect Steve Austin to show up and do something, since he won that match.

WRESTLEMANIA 33
April 2, 2017
Orlando Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida
While much of the 2017 schedule is up in the air right now, WrestleMania’s been announced long in advance. As always, it will be WWE’s biggest attempt to put on an unforgettable show, though whether they succeed is something we’ll have to wait for. I’m sure the Rock will be there in some form, just because it’s Florida. A TakeOvershow on Friday, March 31 is also just as likely.

WWE SUMMERSLAM 2017
August 20, 2017
Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York
SummerSlam will be making its third consecutive stop in Brooklyn for their high-profile event. That’s well over a year away as of this writing, but I’m sure the main event will be something like Jack Swagger vs. Darren Young. You know how obvious WWE booking is.
